The requirements for the Master of Engineering (ME) degree are generally the same as those for the Master of Science. However, the ME student completes a special project rather than a research thesis. Credit for the special project is given under ChE 599 and is limited to 6 credits. Students without an undergraduate degree in chemical engineering must meet the same additional requirements specified for the Master of Science degree.

A graduate applicant preferably should have a bachelor's or master's degree in chemical engineering or chemistry. Applicants must have a class rank placing them in the upper 50% in their undergraduate class. Applicants with records or scores that meet or exceed these guidelines are not guaranteed admission. Admission of qualified students also depends on a match between the student's area of interest and the research specialties of the faculty and the availability of professors. Applicants must possess a baccalaureate from an accredited college or university and must present evidence of their qualifications for advanced study. Admissions is based on GPA, G.M.A.T., essays, recommendations, and written application; TOEFL required for international applicants.GRE scores are required for all applicants. International students must submit a TOEFL score of 550 or higher (213 for computer-based TOEFL).
