Task 1

Your university is planning to allow students to watch TV in theirs dormitories. What is your opinion and why? What are the advantages and disadvantages of watching TV in dormitories? Include reasons and examples to support your response.

I believe that students watch too much television. School policies that allow television can only have a negative impact on students’ success in school. I believe that students waste too much time in front of the TV. Instead of playing outside or reading books, students sit like vegetables in front of the television set watching silly cartoons with no educational value. Limiting the time they waste watching TV will encourage students to spend more time studying and learning about the world around them. Also, I believe that watching so much television is unhealthy. Childhood obesity is on the rise and schools can help children lead better lives by enforcing a no-TV policy. Watching less TV would give students more time to engage in more active pastimes like playing basketball or soccer outside with their classmates. (Anna)

Task 2

Some people believe that teachers should communicate with students in class. Others believe that teachers should communicate with students by sending emails. Witch why do you think in better and why? Use specific reasons and examples to support your answer.

In the U.S., most teachers will still communicate with students in class, but I have seen teachers use Blackboard systems or e-mail to communicate with students as well. While I'm a big believer in the benefits afforded by electronic systems, in this instance I prefer the more traditional method of getting my information from teachers. This isn't so much due to any fault with the electronic systems themselves, though at my school they're known to go haywire sometimes. Rather, most of my teachers have had a hard time adopting these new electronic systems, and only make attempts to do so because of pressure from the school administration. My teachers have made some earnest attempts, but the Blackboard system is always crashing and students often use that as an excuse for not completing assignments. It’s been so much trouble that many of my teachers have just given up. (Richard)

【名词解释】：eavesdropping(偷听)：当遇到危险时，动物会发出一种特别的声音里警告同伴，他的同伴就会逃走。【教授举例】：教授举了一个例子。有一种猴子，他发现他的敌人——种老鹰，他会发出特别是声音来警告同伙，其他猴子逃走，不同的声音代表不同的捕猎者。同时，一种鸟听到猴子的声音，竟然能识别出危险，于是逃走!

这题的重点是鸟，不是猴子...鸟偷听猴子发出的信号
