Admission

Applications for admission to read for the degrees of Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) and Master of Philosophy (MPhil) in Computer Science would normally be considered by the Computer Science Departmental Research Postgraduate Committee. Applicants are required to propose a field of study and submit a research proposal giving a clear description of a particular aspect of the field in which they are interested in pursuing, and explaining the particular approach they propose to take in studying the subject matter. Applicants should also complete and return an application form obtainable from the Graduate School.

Admission Requirements

1.All applicants must satisfy the respective admission requirements prescribed by The University, which normally requires a Bachelor's degree with honours from this University, or an equivalent qualification from another university or comparable institution. Applicants with other qualifications or experience may be admitted under exceptional circumstances.

2.Applicants who do not hold a degree from an institution using English as the language of instruction and examination are required to take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) and obtain a paper-based score 550 (or Internet-based score of 80) or above. Applicants can apply to use result from English proficiency tests such as IELTS, GCE, IGCSE, and CPE to satisfy the English Requirement.

3.Applicants whose first degrees are not in Computer Science or related disciplines need to obtain satisfactory scores in the Subject Test in Computer Science of the Graduate Record Examinations (GRE).

Fellowships and Studentships

To encourage students with outstanding academic performance to join our programmes, the following fellowships/studentships are available:

1.Hong Kong PhD Fellowships (HKPF) offered by the Research Grants Council HK$240,000 per year Please visit: www.rgc.edu.hk/hkphd for details)

2.University Postgraduate Fellowships (UPF) offered by HKU

At least HK$180,700 per year(Combined value of UPF and PGS)

3.Postgraduate Studentships (PGS) offered by HKU At least HK$163,200 per year

4.HKPF awardees will not be concurrently awarded UPF or PGS

2nd clearing round

May 1, 2012 to August 31, 2012
