How is my course classified?

Laboratory or Workshop Based: This includes most courses offered in computing, engineering (with the exception of civil engineering/built environment courses), design, music, publishing, photography & film, sports and life sciences.
Classroom based: If your course does not fall into any of the above classifications, then it will be a standard taught course.

Tuition Fee assessments

All students attending University in the UK should pay tuition fees before the start of each year of their course. Students are assessed as either "home" or "overseas" for the purpose of assessing how much they pay. There is a considerable difference between the "home" and the "overseas" rate, so it is very important that every assessment is right.

EU Students:
It is normal practice that students who are assessed as "home" can apply to the Student Awards Agency for Scotland who will pay their fees directly to University at the start of the academic year. "Home" students are usually all students from Scotland or from the EU/EEA.

Overseas Students:
International students are liable to pay the full cost of their tuition themselves. If you are assessed as an "overseas" student it is extremely important to make sure that you have sufficient funds to pay your tuition fees for each year that you will study.

Tuition Fee policy

The University have a very strict tuition fees policy which states that you will be asked to leave your course and return to your home country if you are unable to pay your tuition costs.

Students can either arrange to pay their fees in full at the start of their course, set up a recurring card payment or by direct debit in monthly instalments which will spread payments over the period relevant to the academic session. To pay by Direct Debit, students must have a bank or building society account in the UK.

Deposits & Discounts

It is policy for the University to request a £3,000 deposit from each international student paying over £6,500.  You will be required to pay this in order to receive your Certificate of Acceptance for Studies letter which you need if you are applying for a student visa. You will receive information regarding this before you start your studies.

Students who pay their fees in full 30 days before matriculation students will be eligible for a £150 discount.

How to pay

Option 2 – Direct Debit Instalment Plan

To pay this way you must be paying at least £100 of the fees yourself and you must have UK bank account that accepts direct debit payments

If you wish to use this Plan you MUST sign up for it at matriculation

Payments are collected on the first day of every month beginning each November and ending over the agreed period.

Missed payments will not be collected by direct debit.  If this happens you will be contacted by email and alternative arrangements must be made for payment.  If you miss 2 payments you will lose the right to pay by instalments

Option 3 – Nominating a sponsor to pay your fees

If your fees are being paid for you by someone else (including a government award body) you must provide evidence of sponsorship or award at matriculation so that an invoice can be issued to the named person or organisation
If your sponsor withdraws financial support or does not pay all or part of an invoice you will have to pay the full amount to us
