For MPhil degree programs, applicants should:

have obtained a bachelor's degree from HKUST or a recognized institution, or obtained an approved equivalent qualification;

satisfy the school and department concerned as to their fitness to pursue the postgraduate program; and

have demonstrable English ability to pursue the postgraduate program.

For PhD degree programs, applicants should:

normally have obtained a master's degree from HKUST or an approved institution, or presented evidence of satisfactory work at the postgraduate level on a full-time basis for at least one year, or on a part-time basis for at least two years;

satisfy the school and department concerned as to their chosen subject of research and their fitness to undertake the research; and

have demonstrable English ability to undertake the research.

英语成绩要求：

Typically, an HKUST postgraduate program candidate will have a TOEFL (paper-based test) score of no less than 550 (comparatively, 213 for CBT TOEFL, 80 for iBT TOEFL). Some programs may require a minimum score of 600 (comparatively, 250 for CBT TOEFL, 100 for iBT TOEFL).

The typical IELTS overall band score for HKUST postgraduate program candidates is no less than 6.

TOEFL and IELTS scores are valid for two years from the test date.
