1. An American film actor once said, “Tomorrow is important and precious.” Some people think
individuals and society should pay more attention to the future than to the present. Do you agree or
disagree?

2. Development in technology causes environmental problems. Some people believe the solution in these
problems is that everyone accepts a simpler way of life, while others say that technology can solve these
problems. Discuss both views and give your own opinion.

3. In today's world, it is private companies rather than the government who pay for and carry out most
on scientific research. To what extend do you think the advantages outweigh disadvantages.

4. Rich countries often give financial aid to poor countries, but it does not solve the poverty, so rich
countries should give other types of help to the poor countries rather than the financial aid. To what extent
do you agree or disagree?

5. Schools offer a wide range of courses such as physical education, music, economics, philosophy,
math, English, geography, physics and history. Among all these subjects, which one do you think is the
most important and which one is the least important?

6. Some people believe that increasing the number of sports facilities is the best way to improve public
health; others believe that it has little effects and need other measures to improve it. Discuss both views
and give your opinion.

7. Some people believe the range of technology available to individuals today is increasing the gap
between poor people and rich people. Others think it is having an opposite effect. Discuss these points
of view. What is your opinion?

8. Some people think imported food exerts positive impacts on our lives. To what extent do you agree?

9. Some people think that charity organizations should only offer help to people of their own country.
But others believe that these organizations should give aid to people in great need wherever they live.

10. Some think that these environmental problems are too big for individuals to solve, while others think
that individuals cannot solve these environmental problems unless they take some action. Discuss both
views and give your opinion.

11. Students at schools and universities learn far more from lessons with teachers than from others
sources (such as the Internet, television). To what extent do you agree or disagree?

12. The gap between the rich and the poor is becoming wider. The rich are growing richer and the poor
are growing poorer. What are the causes of this? What measures can be taken to reduce this problem?

13. Today there is a great increase in anti-social behaviour and a lack of respect to others. What are the causes of this? What measures can be
taken to reduce this problem?

14. Today, people can work and live in anywhere they want, because of the improvement of
communication technology and transport. Do advantages of this development outweigh the disadvantages?
