俄亥俄大学建校于1804年，校龄近两百年，是俄亥俄州第一所大学，是美国旧西北区最早成立的第一所高等教育学术机构。学校被国家杂志每年均评定为物超所值的大学之一;美国出版杂志报导，俄亥俄大学是美国国内顶尖的公立学校之一。

俄亥俄大学提供大多所有领域的硕士学位、部分博士学位，是所全方位的学府。整骨医学院提供四年的专业课程， 并有博士学位;俄亥俄大学隶属艺术学院的摄影系，提供学士与硕士学位，排名为全美的前十五名。

俄亥俄大学全职教师60多人，其中80%有博士学位，而且许多教师有商业经历，并与知名大企业保持咨询关系。所有教师都积极参与专业机构及工商业界的发展。大约有将近20,000学生 在此就读。光是研究所的学生就有近3,500人左右，其中的2,300人为全职学生。

公元1804年成立俄亥俄大学的图书馆，为全球知名图书馆之一，它知名的原因在于它的馆藏丰富，有200万册的藏书、11,000种定期刊物、160万份缩影片，并且与美国各地公共图书馆网络联机，建立良好馆际合作，图书馆各部门均采用全面自动化操作系统，每年约有33万册的借书量纪录，各种类的藏书，总计有约有200万册。

俄亥俄大学除了图书馆让人印象深刻之外，俄亥俄大学Ohio University的学校设备也不差，光是运动设备就有体育馆、游泳池、健身房、田径场、篮球场、排球场呢!在俄亥俄大学OHIO UNIVERSITY就读，其生活机能也不错，这里除了不定期会有文化活动之外，也有购物中心、电影院、剧院、体育设施及餐厅等等，到邻近的大城如哥伦布市也很近，而且它的户外活动也很盛行，像是健行、攀岩、滑雪、高尔夫、露营等等，都是这里的居民常从事的休闲活动。

俄亥俄大学共分为5个校园，雅典校区里涵盖了5个校园，主校区所处的位置在安全、温馨且美丽的城市--雅典市Athens，距离俄亥俄州首府哥伦布市Columbus大约120公里，开车需要2小时左右的车程,并且离哥伦比亚国际机场约1小时40分钟车程，交通便利。这里的气候四季分明，夏天炎热，冬季会降雪，在秋天时还会见到满山满谷飘落的枫叶,加上充满绿意人文的环境，此区的特色出了具历史性之外，并拥有丰富的社交文化活动，是所历史悠久、充满诗意的大学。
